FAQs

What comes with the Luminoah Flow System?

Your first shipment will contain three boxes. The first box contains the Luminoah FlowTM pump, USB‑C charging cable, wall adapter, and the printed User Guide and Quick Start Guide. The second box contains the reusable accessories: the holster for the pump, a pole clamp, and the funnel for filling the nutrition pouch. The third box contains a month’s supply of daily‑use Administration Sets (a nutrition pouch and pump head tubing set). Additional items like extension sets and feeding tubes come from your clinician or equipment provider.

What additional items do I need to begin feeding?

You will need your prescribed enteral formula, a feeding tube, and an extension set (if applicable)—these items are typically selected and supplied by your clinician or equipment provider. An IV pole is optional for stationary use, and many users may also choose a carry pack for on-the-go feeding. Disclaimer: Consult your clinician for all prescription-related decisions and for selection of appropriate feeding accessories.

How do I turn the pump on and off?

Press and hold the Sleep / Wake button on top of the pump to turn the pump on or wake it from deep sleep. When the pump is in deep sleep, you may need to hold the button slightly longer. To power off, open the Settings menu (gear icon in top right corner) and select Power Off.

What do the LED status light colors mean?

A solid orange LED indicates the pump is charging; the LED turns off once fully charged. A solid green LED indicates normal operation, while a flashing green LED means a feed is paused. Yellow or red LEDs only appear when a notification or alarm needs attention.

How do I attach the Pump Head correctly?

Align the Pump Head with the connector port and press firmly until you feel and hear a click. The Pump Head should sit flat against the device. If it is not attached correctly, the pump will alert you with an alarm.

How do I fill the Nutrition Pouch?

Remove the pouch cap, thread the funnel securely onto the pouch, and pour formula or water at a steady pace. Avoid splashing or rapid pours to help limit foaming. Thicker or more viscous formulas may flow more slowly through the funnel, so allow extra time when filling.

How do I prevent air from getting trapped in the pouch?

After filling, remove the funnel and gently squeeze the pouch so liquid rises to the top of the spout before attaching the spike connector. This helps remove excess air and improves priming.

Can I prefill pouches ahead of time?

You may prefill pouches if you follow the storage and handling instructions provided by your clinician or formula manufacturer. However, each Administration Set—including the pouch—is intended for a maximum use period of 24 hours, so any prefilled pouch must still be used within the same 24‑hour window.

How do I set the Amount and Flow Rate?

You can adjust the Amount and Flow Rate from the Quick Feed section on the Home Screen by tapping the value on the screen. Then use either the physical +/– buttons on the top of the pump, the on‑screen +/– buttons, or by tapping the number fields to open the keyboard and enter a specific value. The +/– buttons adjust in increments of 10, so the keyboard is best for entering more precise values.

What is a Quick Feed?

Quick Feed is the method to program a single feeding session from the Main Menu. Enter the Amount of water or nutrition and Flow Rate for the feed.

How do presets work?

Presets allow you to save up to 4 pre‑programmed feeding and 4 pre‑programmed hydration settings for convenience. Presets are helpful if your feeding amounts or rates change throughout the day or night. Simply swipe to select the preset you want instead of re‑entering the values on the Quick Feed screen.

What happens if I forget my lockout code?

If you forget your lockout code, you can unlock the pump using the universal override code 1010. After unlocking, go to Settings to set a new passcode, using 1010 as the current passcode when prompted.

Why must I prime before connecting to my body?

Priming ensures that the tubing is completely filled with fluid so no air enters your feeding tube.

Why does the pump stop every 10 seconds to ask if I see drops?

The pump pauses briefly as a safety check to confirm that fluid has reached the end of the tubing. This step helps limit formula waste by preventing continuous priming if you forget to stop it. Once you see drops, you can stop priming and proceed to connect to your feeding tube.

What should I do if priming does not complete?

First ensure the pouch is upright and that the spike connector and Pump Head are fully attached. Also confirm that you pressed excess air out of the pouch during setup. If air remains inside, priming may take significantly longer. If you still do not see drops after several cycles, replace the Administration Set and start priming again.

How do I begin a feed once connected?

After you connect the tubing to your feeding tube, verify that the Amount and Flow Rate shown on the screen match what your clinician prescribed. When ready, select Start Feed to begin delivery. You can also start the feed by holding the Sleep / Wake button for three seconds once you have completed the priming steps and reached the feeding screen.

Can I pause or resume a feed?

Yes. You can pause or resume a feed either by selecting Pause or Resume on the screen, or by holding the Sleep / Wake button for three seconds while a feeding session is active. A flashing green LED indicates a paused feed.

Will the pump remember progress if interrupted?

Yes. The pump records the volume already delivered in its history. If a feed ends unexpectedly, the pump will display a Feed Interrupted alarm showing how much volume remains and the rate you were using. You can then re‑enter the remaining amount and resume feeding as instructed by your clinician.

How often should I replace the Administration Set?

Each Administration Set, including the Nutrition Pouch, tubing, and Pump Head, must be replaced every 24 hours. • Do I need to flush the system after every feed? No. If you are finished feeding and plan to dispose of the Administration Set, rinsing is not required. Flushing is only needed when you plan to continue using the same set within its 24‑hour use period. • Can I rinse and reuse a set within the same 24 hours? Yes. Rinsing and reusing the set within the same 24‑hour period is what we refer to as Rinsing. This process uses water only to clear formula from the tubing between feeds. The same set must not be used beyond 24 hours from first connection.

When should I use the Rinse feature?

Use the Rinse feature when you plan to reuse the same Administration Set for another feed within the 24‑hour period, or when you want to clear formula from the tubing between uses. In this system, rinsing refers to clearing the tubing only—it does not deliver water to your body.

Can I use non-Luminoah administration sets?

No. The pump is designed to work only with Luminoah Flow Administration Sets. Other sets may not attach securely or may lead to free‑flow, inaccurate delivery, or safety alarms.

What types of formulas can I use?

You should use commercially prepared enteral nutrition formulas that are prescribed or recommended by your clinician. These formulas have consistent composition and thickness, which helps ensure safe, accurate delivery by the pump.

Can I use homemade blenderized or thickened foods?

No. Homemade blenderized, or thickened foods can vary widely in texture and consistency, which may interfere with safe pump operation or accuracy. Only commercially prepared formulas should be used with the system.

Why are lipids not permitted?

The device has not been validated with formulas containing added lipids or high‑fat emulsions.

Can a cold formula be used?

Yes. Cold formulas can be used, but very cold formulas may create small air bubbles as they warm, which can increase the chance of an Air‑in‑Line alarm. Allowing formulas to reach room temperature can help reduce bubbles. If bubbles or foaming appear during a feed, you can pause the session and use the Prime option to clear air from the tubing before resuming.

What do the LED colors mean?

A red flashing LED indicates a high-priority alarm that requires immediate attention. A yellow flashing LED indicates a medium-priority alarm, and a solid yellow LED indicates a low-priority notification. A solid green LED shows normal operation, while a flashing green LED means a feed is paused.

What should I do if I get an Upstream Occlusion alarm?

An upstream occlusion means formula is not moving from the Nutrition Pouch into the pump. Check that the pouch is not empty, the spike connector is fully tightened, and the tubing between the pouch and pump is not kinked or blocked. Reattaching these components will usually resolve the issue. If air has entered the tubing as a result of the upstream occlusion, prime out the air from the Pause screen, and resume the feeding session.

What should I do if I get a Downstream Occlusion alarm?

A downstream occlusion means formula is not flowing from the pump to your feeding tube. Check for kinks in the extension set, closed clamps, or a clogged tube. Straighten the tubing or clear the blockage before restarting the feed.

What should I do if I get an Air‑in‑Line alarm?

An Air‑in‑Line alarm means the pump has detected a large amount of air in the tubing. Pause the feed and use the Prime option to push air out of the tubing. Once fluid is flowing smoothly again, you can resume your feed.

What should I do if I get a Feed Interrupted alarm?

A Feed Interrupted alarm appears if the pump stops or restarts during an active feed. The screen will show how much volume remains and the rate you were using. Re‑enter the remaining volume and resume feeding as instructed by your clinician.

What should I do if I see an Insufficient Charge notification?

This means the battery may not last long enough to finish the feed. You can still start or continue feeding, but plan to plug the pump in during the feeding session so it has enough power to complete the feed.

How do I clean the pump?

Wipe the outside of the pump with a cloth dampened with a mild soap‑and‑water solution per the User Guide. Make sure no liquid enters the device and never submerge the pump in water.

How do I clean the funnel?

Rinse the funnel right after use to prevent formula buildup. If necessary, soak it in warm, soapy water, scrub gently soft brush (e.g., nylon bristled bottle brush or similar), rinse well, and let it air dry as described in the Instructions for Use.

How often should I clean the pump?

It is recommended that the pump be cleaned daily to help keep the device free of residue and operating properly. Users may find that the need for cleaning varies based on their routine, but cleaning after each Administration Set use is the guidance provided in the User Guide.

How do I clean the power adapter?

Clean the power adapter only when necessary. Unplug it first, then wipe the exterior with a cloth lightly dampened with 70% isopropyl alcohol.

What should I do if formula leaks into the pump?

Stop using the pump, wipe away visible residue, and allow the device to dry completely. If the device stops operating normally and or causes unexpected alarms, stop using the device immediately, and contact Customer Support.

How do I attach the holster?

Align the back of the pump with the holster and press gently until the magnetic connection clicks into place. The pump should be positioned with the buttons on top, and the holster logo should face upright and be readable when oriented correctly.

How do I attach the Pole Clamp securely?

Open the clamp using the knob, position it around the pole, and tighten the knob until the clamp no longer moves. The hook on the clamp should face upward so the Nutrition Pouch can hang properly. Note: Do not remove the knob from the Pole Clamp. In the event the knob is unscrewed, make sure to align the knob screw with the insert. • Can I use the pump without an IV pole? Yes. The holster allows you to clip the pump to a belt, bag, or other surface for hands‑free, on-the-go use. The pump can also be used entirely on its own without the holster or pole clamp if you prefer to carry or position it differently.

Does the setup of the pump affect accuracy?

The pump can operate in any orientation as a result of our 360° Nutrition Delivery™ design.

How long does the battery last?

The battery is designed to last a minimum of 24 hours at a rate of 125ml/hr. Battery life will vary based on individual feeding schedules, programmed flow rates, the use of the mobile application (optional), and the screen brightness level.

How long does it take to recharge?

Using the provided charger, the pump recharges from 0% to 100% in about 4.5 hours.

Can I feed while charging?

Yes. The pump can operate normally while it is plugged in and charging.

How will I know if the battery is failing?

If the pump no longer holds a charge or charging does not restore normal battery life, contact Customer Support for assistance.

Who can use the pump?

The pump is intended for adults and for children 2 years of age and older who require enteral nutrition. It should not be used for neonates.

What should I do in case of a power outage?

If the pump cannot be powered or charged, you may need to use an alternative feeding method such as a gravity bag or syringe, as instructed by your clinician. Keep backup supplies available so you can continue feeding safely.

Is BluetoothⓇ required for feeding?

No. The pump works fully and safely on its own. Bluetooth is only used for optional mobile app connectivity and does not affect feeding.

Why does my feed seem slower than expected?

A feed may run slower for a number of reasons. A very cold formula can thicken slightly and move more slowly, and kinks or tight bends in the tubing can also reduce flow. Make sure the programmed rate is correct, the tubing is straight, and the formula has had time to warm to room temperature. If feeding still seems unusually slow, reach out to your clinician or Customer Support for guidance.

Why do small bubbles appear in the tubing?

Small bubbles are normal and usually do not affect feeding. Larger bubbles or foam may appear if the formula is very cold or shaken. To help resolve bubbles, pause the feed and use the Prime option which can help clear excess air.

Why is my screen dim or turning off?

This may happen if the screen brightness is set low or the pump is entering sleep mode to save battery. You can adjust brightness or wake the screen by pressing the Sleep / Wake button on the top of the pump.

Why does the pump ask me to verify settings after pausing?

The pump asks you to confirm settings after a pause to prevent unintentional changes and ensure you resume the correct programmed feed.

Why am I unable to pair with the pump?
